Ayurvedic Teeth Whitening Tips

Ayurvedam has documented various methods by which you can restore the whiteness of teeth. Teeth are indicators of the beauty of the face, as smile is one of the first things people notice about you. Teeth can become discolored for a number of reasons, the most common being tobacco, coffee, tea, berries, and the natural accumulation of tartar over time. Other reasons for discoloration of teeth may be internal reasons such as by aging, injury, excessive fluoride, and by certain illnesses and medicines. Discoloration is natural over time.
Remedies for teeth whitening.
- Take some foil and fold it to form to your teeth. Take a little toothpaste and baking soda and mix together really well. Put some of the mixture into the foil and place on your teeth. Leave on for one-hour everyday. Brush teeth normally afterward. This is one of the important home remedies for teeth whitening.
- Strawberries, tomatoes and amalaki contain good vitamin C content. These can be directly applied on the teeth. Vitamin C helps in removing the plaque on the teeth and makes them whiter.
- Take adequate measures of dental hygiene. Brush your teeth after every meal, or at least in the morning and before going to bed. While brushing your teeth, take care to sweep out all the embedded food particles. This is the most natural way to keep your teeth white and healthy.
- Make a paste by grinding dried bay leaves and dried orange peels and adding a little water. Use as a teeth whitener.
- Brush your outer and inner surfaces at 45-degree angle. On chewing surfaces, hold the brush flat and brush back and forth. On inside surfaces of front teeth, tilt brush vertically and use gentle up and won strokes with toe of the brush.
- Add a drop of clove oil to the toothpaste and brush.
Herbs for whitening of teeth
- Babul (Acacia arabica): There are no words to describe the usefulness of babul in whitening of teeth. Due to its benefit, Ayurveda stresses the importance of using the twigs of the babul as disposable toothbrushes. The tannin found in babul makes the teeth whiter.
- Banyan (Ficus religiosa): The aerial roots of the banyan also make good disposable toothbrushes. The banyan roots are astringent that not only increase the whiteness of the teeth but also improve the health of the teeth and gums.
- Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum): Dry the leaves of the holy basil, powder them and use it for brushing teeth. The leaves improve the dental hygiene and increase the whiteness of the teeth. Besides the whitening features, holy basil also offers protection against dental problems like pyorrhea (bleeding of gums).
- Margosa (Azadirachtha indica): The neem tree, or the margosa, is a traditional remedy to get white healthy teeth. Neem twigs are still used by many Indians as toothbrushes. Neem oils possess astringent and antiseptic properties to prevent bad breath, destroy microorganisms present in the teeth and to fight dental caries and cavities.
